We are not a sprawling centre but a small dedicated College with a big reputation in excellence and animal welfare that specialises in 1-2-1, small group teaching or larger seminars for the general public. We support individuals especially those that haven't studied for years, clubs, dog owners and other professionals including vet nurse training and veterinary surgeon training in canine behaviour.


Students that join us can expect to work hard, but will achieve a greater understanding and develop far more practical skills than if they attended most other Colleges.

Groom Your Own Dog  Day - CSC Certificate


Ever wished you could groom your own dog? Own a nervous dog that you would like to groom yourself? Then why not join Sara Hart LCGI, Tutor and City and Guilds International Medal for Excellence winner.  Sara has a vast amount and range of canine knowledge and excellent practical application skills in dog grooming. Sara is qualified in dog grooming, advanced canine behaviour, advanced canine handling skills, is also a qualified dog training instructor and qualified small animal hydrotherapist, in addition to being a City and Guilds External Dog grooming Examiner covering the UK. 


Although a specialist dog groomer and recognised as one the UK's best dog grooming tutors you will find Sara is friendly, supportive and compassionate about the welfare of dogs in her care. A day for you and your dog with Sara is £195 and includes all tuition, full insurance cover, use of facilities, all equipment and suggested products for your dog

Level 1. Introduction to Dog Grooming - Two Day Course CSC Certificate

Are you thinking about becoming a professional dog groomer or thinking about be involved within a dog grooming salon? Spend two days with us to gain an Introduction to Dog Grooming. This will help you make an informed decision before committing to longer term courses or expense. 

This intensive introductory two day course covers an introduction to risk assessment, health checking, preparation for bathing, bathing, drying and brushing out, with further introduction to styling techniques used within dog grooming, and grooming equipment. Course fees include all tuition, full insurance cover, use of facilities, all equipment, assessment and College Certification. £350.

City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants. 7763-02
Accredited and recognised by Ofqual.  This course is supported by the Pet Industry Federation.

To gain the Level 2 Certificate you will train with us within a commercial environment so you have plenty of opportunity for practical application on a range of Level 2 dog breeds and others. You will work with and be taught by Sara Hart LCGI, ABDN, a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence Winner for her amazing tutoring skills, student support and professionalism. 

There are no entry requirements for this Level 2 Course.

There are also structured classroom sessions covering necessary theory including an introduction to canine behaviour and handling, taught by Dean Hart MSc CFBA AABP, a qualified and experienced clinical canine behaviourist.  

Our students have opportunity to interact with clients, complete a Level 2 groom from start to finish, under supervision and full support, so they are ready to succeed within their newly chosen career. 
The maximum number of students within a practical class is four and very often 1-2-1 teaching takes place due to our flexible teaching rota. On most occasions there is a student ration of 1-2-1 for each dog (one student working with one dog). 



This course requires 183 guided learning hours (see notes below), production of a portfolio and assessments. Successful completion gains 23 City and Guilds credits at Level 2. 

The last date for enrolling on this course at the Canine Studies College is Tuesday November 10th 2020.

Students will need to plan for College attendance and time at home for study and portfolio production.

Units Covered
Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing.
Bathe and clean dogs.
Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals.
Control and restrain animals
Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling
Basic trimming of a dog's coat.
Maintain the cleanliness and bio-security of the working environment.

City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming 7863-03

Accredited and recognised by Ofqual.  This course is supported by the Pet Industry Federation


To gain the Level 3 Diploma in dog grooming you will train with us within a commercial environment so you have plenty of opportunity for practical application and styling on a range of Level 3 dog breeds and others. You will work with and be taught by Sara Hart LCGI, ABDN, a City & Guilds Medal for Excellence Winner for her amazing tutoring skills, student support and professionalism.  


You will need to have completed the City and Guilds Level 2 Certificate and possess relevant understanding and skills required to train at this level, before enrolling on this course. 

This course is for those wishing to become professional dog groomers, either working as a stylist within a dog grooming salon or wishing to establish their own business.
   
There are also structured classroom sessions covering necessary theory including canine behaviour and handling, taught by Dean Hart MSc CFBA AABP, a qualified and experienced clinical canine behaviourist.  

Our students have opportunity to interact with clients, and will be expected to groom their own dogs within the qualification time frames under supervision and full support, so they are ready to succeed within a commercial environment, be able to meet exam requirements and this will also help toward  them succeeding within their own business. The maximum number of students within a practical class is four and very often 1-2-1 teaching takes place due to our flexible teaching rota. 
   
This course requires 300 guided learning hours (see notes below), production of a portfolio, written and practical exams. The Total Qualification Time (TQT) is 426 hours. Students will need to plan for College attendance and time at home for additional study.

City & Guilds Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma Combination Course. 

Accredited and recognised by Ofqual. This course is supported by the Pet Industry Federation.


This 60 day course combines the opportunity to complete both the City and Guilds Level qualification and the City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma. 


The teaching of core and mandatory topics at both levels can be combined to save costs. You still receive the same, high level of teaching and support but by combining the courses you save £1650.

Notes on City and Guilds Guided Learning Hours 

 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) are defined as all times when a member of the Canine Studies College is present to give specific guidance towards the qualification being studied. GLH include lectures, tutorials and supervised study, whether in the classroom, grooming salon, reception or via open learning. GLH may also include time spent by tutors directly assessing a learner’s competence. GLH do not include private study, homework or work-based learning. Neither do they include time spent by tutors in the day-to-day marking of assignments and homework where the learner is not present nor does it include hours where supervision is of a general nature.
